Data and results gained will serve as a source for evidences in the Competence Based Training for pilots. Referring to three LOC-I accidents from the past years, the rationale in why human performance shaping factors prevented the pilots from recognising and preventing the aerodynamic stall of their aircraft, is answered. This project work analyses the deep underlying human factor issues in information processing when experiencing rare and unfamiliar situations on flight decks resulting from an unexpected degradation of the autoflight system. Recent fatal Loss of Control Accidents in Flight (LOC-I) revealed an important relation between effective flight path management by pilots and the high reliability of automation on a flight deck. On the other hand, the accident rate has become so low that the correlations between fatal accidents are more difficult to understand than ever before. ![]() Today's reliability of modern commercial aircraft has reached a safety level where accidents can be attributed to human factors rather than technology.
